PCS: Those three letters can be just as much a source of stress and anxiety as they can be of excitement and anticipation. Each new move comes with logistical challenges, from house hunting to getting your kids in the right schools and beyond. Often, some of the biggest hurdles include finding an affordable place to stay and making the most of your time between “here” and “there.”

Making travel plans in advance can be a big help toward alleviating stressful situations. Plan wisely; there are plenty of resources that offer military discounts. For example, Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC) offers weeklong resort stays starting at just $349 (that’s per unit, not per person!). The vacation rentals often have two or more bedrooms, which makes a great alternative to a small hotel room. And with hundreds of destinations worldwide, AFVC offers many opportunities to experience unique places and make memories as you journey to your new home.

Membership is free to all active duty military (as well as guard, reserve and retired members of the armed forces, and civilian employees of the DOD). Visit AFVC’s site to sign up and start your search today! You can also read their article on making time for a vacation during a PCS move.

PCSing is always going to come with its challenges, but with a little strategy, you can take some stress out of the move and have some vacation fun along the way! Best of luck with your move!
